Ocean Futures is a multidisciplinary and independent research institute focusing on the oceans, the seabed, and the polar regions.

Purpose and Areas of Activity
Ocean Futures seeks to contribute to the sustainable use of the world’s oceans. We conduct multidisciplinary research and offer advice on marine activities and resources of the oceans, the sea bed, and the polar regions. Our activities include research on environmental conditions, responsible development of living and mineral resources, shipping, and integrated interest management. We identify and analyse present and future economic opportunities and give advice on political, social, and legal circumstances that might facilitate or constrain commercial ocean activities.

Research is organized into five programs:
Ocean Futures: Winner of the British Cartographic Society Award
