The Northern Areas and Ocean Futures: 14 studies and 8 new maps commissioned by NHO – Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise
At the request of the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO), the research company Ocean Futures produced 14 studies and 8 new maps of maritime boundaries and resources of various kinds for the Confederations’ Annual Conference 2006.
The conference, that was held at the Radisson SAS Scandinavia Hotel in Oslo on 4 January 2006, focused on economic and commercial opportunities and challenges in the Barents Sea and northern regions of Norway in particular, and attracted some one thousand participants. New maps of northern areas
In addition to the studies Ocean Futures also produced eight new maps covering maritime boundaries and resources in the Barents Sea and the northern areas for NHO (© Ocean Futures), covering:
- Maritim jurisdiksjon i nord (Maritime Jurisdictions in the North)
- Norsk olje og gass i nord (Norwegian Oil and Gas in the North)
- Norsk fiske og oppdrett i nord (Norwegian Fishing and Aquaculture in the North)
- Miljø og havaktiviteter i nord (Environment and Ocean Activities in the North)
- Infrastruktur og transport i nord (Infrastructure and Transport in the North)
- Mineralutvinning i nord (Minerals Exploitation in the North)
- Kraftverk i nord (Power Utilities in the North)
- Skogbruk i nord (Forestry in the North)
These maps received the 2006 BCS Award from the British Cartographic Society in October 2006.
Ocean Futures’ exhibition at the Conference
At the Conference Ocean Futures exhibited the maps on a 50 inch flat screen and in enlarged printed versions. The maps were used in the film presentation that opened the Conference and in the discussion between the Chief Executive Officer Helge Lund of Statoil, and Director General Eivind Reiten of Norsk Hydro.
